"I Think I'm Going to Boston..."

This weekend was going to be my last weekend here in the New England area, so Nathan and I planned that we would go to Boston, that way I can say that I’ve been to Boston. Most of the time that I spent there I videod, so I might post a video sometime. But I did take some pictures…

First stop eat at the World Famous Regina's. But on the way we saw the Paul Revere statue and Old North Church.

After all this we basically went to the top of the Prudential Tower and were able to see all over Boston, while getting a historical overview of the city. It was really cool because I got free admissions because I had a military ID.

And of course, being a large baseball fan, we had to stop at Fenway Park.

I guess below you see the original state house.

And then we went to Quincy Market, so that I could get my Boston Sweater.

And then back to Portland... always on the go...

Just a few days left, and I'm off to Canada. Pray for me, I'm actually going to be speaking there.

My mom has approved...

my going to C.A.M.P.U.S. if I would like.

I think for two reasons:
She doesn't care anymore, as long as I finish my Master's.
I cannot date while at C.A.M.P.U.S.

Applications are being completed, references have been sent out. Is it time?

C.A.M.P.U.S. Experience | Day 4

Click on the title, or here, for a link to pictures.

Today was my last day with the CAMPUS missionaries. It was fun and sad. I am truly going to miss them. But my dad started a little earlier then expected. I was intending to sleep in, but my body’s natural alarm clock woke me up at 5 something and then I was determined to at least stay in bed until 6 something. It was nice to sleep at the guys CAMPUS house last night. Its was my only night there, and tonight I’m staying at Justin’s.

But I spent most of the morning reading my Bible on my computer because I left my Bible in a box with the hymnals last night. The rest is a long story, but I eventually got it back nearly before I left. Thanks guys, I was feeling naked without it. I was asked to do devotions this morning for the CAMPUS guys, so I went over John 2-6 and it went well.

After that we went to play football for ASCersise (which is a mixture of Adventist Students for Christ and exercise) – it was probably the coldest whether I every played football in. it was freezing. But it was fun. I wish I would have taken pictures. Afterwards we went to Justin and John’s room for some relaxation and eventually get some food at Red Robin. It was the first time that I had been to a Red Robin since my freshman year in High School – well it might have been 7th grade, sometime around then – but that was years ago.

Afterwards we came back to the house and just chilled. Good thing too, because I was really tired. But after that we went to the CAMPUS Field School. And I was asked to present something, so I think it went well. Generally its in the morning, but this week they changed it to the night time because there is a crew that flew in to the tape it.

After that I said my “goodbye’s” and was off to Justin’s. Thanks for everything you guys. You are truly missed, and hmm… I guess we will see what happens for next year.

C.A.M.P.U.S. Experience | Day 3

Talk about a long night. Mrs. Pipim and I stayed up late, she wanted to talk to me about C.AM.P.U.S. So we talked for a while, and I mean a good while. Which is the reason that I was late this morning. But it was good to spend some good time with the Pipim’s. Their family has truly been a blessing to me. I wish Dr. Pipim was around though, I really wanted to talk to him about a few things.

Well, we got to Sabbath School around 10 something. It was a good study. I joined Jo’s. And then afterwards church was very good. Pastor Conway preached a good message – thank you, it was a blessing. After the service we went back to the Girl’s CAMPUS house and had some food, and then discussions over the service. It was a good blessing to be in that company.

After we had a little Sabbath service we went to the U of M Hospital and met up with some people from D.K. (Detroit Korean). We sang songs and prayed with the people there. It was really good.

Then we drove back to the Guys CAMPUS house and chilled for a little bit.

Until we got a call from Justin, then we drove around trying to figure out where we were going to eat – we eventually settle on Thai Food, and that took a while. Most of the time seemed to be spent in a semi Bible study, so I didn’t really eat my food, because we were still trying to get to the ice skating rink. We finally got there – Thank you Bo Un for driving us everywhere.

It was fun at the rink. For some people it was there first time…I’ll just leave it at that. Then we were invited to go bowling, so some of us were going to do that, until we got another invitation to eat out. So we went to Pizza House, and then bowling. Man, I have truly lost some skills. But it was fun. And Justin Namm is pretty good. Until next time bro… Its late.

C.A.M.P.U.S. Experience | Day 2

Click on the title, or here, for a link to pictures.

Last night Justin and I stayed up talking for a while – a good long while. But it was a good conversation.

So I looked on the weight scale that Justin has in his bathroom, and it says that I’ve lost like a lot of weight. I needed to eat. So after Justin and I tried to drive to get some breakfast at some Vegan Restaurant, only to discover that it was closed, we eventually determined on Denny’s. Thank the Lord, because I was getting quite hungry. But thanks for breakfast Justin.

Afterwards I basically spent the rest of the afternoon with the CAMPUS people. Lunch was interesting. A bit spicier then my taste buds prefer, but it was pretty good. Yet it did not fulfill Dan and my appetites, so we went to Quizno’s. And I realized that I haven’t eaten Quizno’s since the last time I was in Michigan. After that we just came back and ate. Chilled for a bit and then I spent the rest of the day with the CAMPUS missionaries.

We went to No Thai (a Thai Restaurant in Ann Arbor), then we walked to an auditorium in the Mathematics department to eat our food. I was too full now to eat. But it was fun. Afterwards the missionaries and I went to the place where they have worship and they practice because tonight was Praise Night. This past week has been Adventist Awareness Week at U of M.

Praise Night was pretty nice. The testimonies were what really got to me. It was also good to see Little Pipino (Little Sam Pipim) and Ellen, and Mrs. Pipim of course. Afterwards it was nice to talked with some people and actually get to spend sometime just observing the different things that were happening.

When the meeting was over I was invited to stay at the Pipim’s residence. So eventually I arrived, all gratitude’s to Amy.

C.A.M.P.U.S. Experience | Day 1

Click on the title, or here, for a link to pictures.

It was an early morning. I woke up at 4ish. Got things ready, took a shower, and quickly was off to the airport. The flight was okay, but 6:05 is still not my favorite time to have a flight. Yet for a good duration of the flight I spent it talking with the person next to me.

I had a quick layover in D.C. and had to promptly discover where my next flight was to be. When I arrived in Detroit, it took a while for Dr. Pipim to find me. But that was worked out and I went to CAMPUS. Talk about some amazing discoveries. CAMPUS was not what I thought it to be – it has been better.

I came during their homiletics course. It was pretty good. The housing was not what I was thinking it would be, but they are still better then the accommodations than I am currently experiencing in Portland. It is good though. The food took a little while, and I was quite hungry. I didn’t really have time for breakfast – especially since last night’s meetings went longer then the Pastor said they would. So I hadn’t really eaten in about 24 hours.

It was nice, I later got to see Justin and he invited me to stay at his house – I didn’t full understand what the consequences of that would be until later (j/t). But after lunch we chilled for a little while and then Dan, Amy, and I went to get some Sushi. It was pretty good. Then we went to see Bo Un. And then to a Bible study. The study was really good – it was over the Sabbath. Thank you Justin Namm.

After the study Dan took me back to the CAMPUS house. And eventually Justin picked me up.

A Day Off | Unexpected

I decided not to work out today, because later we would be playing at Pine Tree Academy gym. But before that I went to the library for as long as I could. But it was great, I was able to get my paper printed off, and get it sent off tomorrow. But afterwards we went to Pine Tree Academy had some good lunch and played some games. It went well.

We played basketball, fooseball, ping pong, and dodge ball.

The Last Meeting

Today was just packed with so much.

This morning we had the Bible marking courses for those who are getting baptized, or are planning on getting baptized, or whoever is really interested. Then Finley spoke for divine service, and it was really powerful. It was on “Four Things Christians Do Not Know,” and he basically went over Romans 8 – which is, if one didn’t know, one of my top ten favorite chapters in the Bible.

Then we had a great baptismal service. I’ll post some pictures here, but we’ll see how they turned out.

These are those who came up for the call to be baptized sometime in the near future.

For the rest of Sabbath I made some pasta, and then we watch Planet Earth – a series of DVD’s that I want to get for myself.

Then we all showed up to the meetings really early, for a reason that we never figured out. But we were able to finally get a group picture – but since the lighting is bad, I will have to edit it later. But the meetings went well, and I guess these will be the last pictures at the meetings, since it is the last night.

These are some of the products that people could get for free for coming a certain amount of nights.

This is Charles Haugabrooks and Kelly Mouwer. It was cool, I was able to help Mr. Haugabrooks with his new Mac. And we both have our contacts so we'll probably be in touch in the future.

Chad is the person who was there for the sound most of the nights. Initially I was working with him a bit, but then I started to help with other things, but we hope to keep in touch.

Chris is probably the one that I've become closest friends with. Were both from the West, so we have a common bond and understanding.

Chelsy is the GYC Vice President for Evangelism, and currently one of the Bible workers here. Can you see Mark Finley in the background?

It was cool though, I was able to get my set of Mark Finley’s different sets on Revelation and the Archeology lectures. Good thing that I get them now too, because we get a student discount – but I still think that I paid a pretty penny.

We had a lot to load up and a bit to clean. Things will be a little different now, but I guess we’ll see how things go now. Now its follow up.

I must say, that I have truly learned a lot from this experience, and know how to better plan a full out evangelistic campaign. Now I just need to make it and have a title, and I guess a location would be good - but I have had a few invites.

(Pray for my friend, she's sick)

Last Friday Meetings

Today was basically just trying to get some things done. Good work out, devotions and time alone. Afterwards, Nathan and I tried to go to Quizno’s but I got confused and we went to the wrong place. So we just had Panera Bread. It was good, but this Panera gives little portions. Then I went to the library today to try to print something off, but they wanted me to purchase a $5 card just to print something and I was like forget it and I can get it printed for free somewhere else.

Later I tried to help Yvonne on her computer, but to no avail something is really messed. So I will have to try another time after I can back everything up. Then she dropped me off at the Thai Restaurant and I ate some good food. I have come to the conclusion that I probably shouldn’t be so worried about money. The Lord always provides.

I walked back and we had a good meeting. There was a good number for it being one of the last meetings. But tomorrow is going to be exciting, we are going to have some baptisms and at the same time its going to be sad, because we are going to have our last meeting.

Finley: “Malcolm Is Getting Fat”

Today was good, I woke up and actually worked out. I need to make sure that I keep up with that. It was a good work out, but I could tell that I was tired.

Classes were good. Today was the last day that the Finley’s are going to be with us in class, well, at least until our final. But it’s good because I got some things squared away with what I am supposed to do. Class was interesting – I’ll just leave it at that. But I’ve found out that I don’t have to show up for class from now on. Isn’t that cool? I just have to be here for the workers meetings. I’ve got all the credits, now I just need to work on my paper. Its quite exciting. I also have official permission to post my notes online. I just have to figure out where I'm going to post them. Oh, did anyone see the article about Fish on the front page of Newsweek?

Afterwards we had a good lunch. It was funny though; sometimes you never really see how human others are – especially those that so many hold in high esteem. But while we were in lunch Finley and I were talking about the food and how good it was. And then I made a comment about how I’ve finally gotten back in about my normal weight again. (This last summer was just a lot of food, haha.) But he was like, “Oh we need to cut down on our food, because Malcolm is getting fat.” Haha, it was funny because I was telling him how the students, well some of us, work out nearly everyday. But I think to my knowledge I’ve been the most consistent. It’s odd, it’s almost as if my day isn’t right without a good work out and devotions. But its cool, because now its become a habit.
Then as we were sitting around eating, the Finley and I ate at the same table. And we were able to talk about things. I talked to him about rebaptism and communion and I’ve come to the conviction that I do not need to be rebaptized and that we overdo it. But it was funny just to see how the Finley interact; because Mrs. Finley said that we can now only have desserts only once a week, and so Mr. Finley went and got a lot of dessert, and was like, “Look what Mrs. Finley made me do, since I can only have it once a week, I’ve got to get all that I can.” And then she was like, “Well, we have to live up to the health principles that we teach.” It was just funny because they were teasing back and forth, and it was just a really enjoyable moment.
After class Hanif and I debated going out. Today we decided that we were going to do something together as a group. Especially since we had some extra time. So it was going to be guys night at the batting cages. But before that I had to get my haircut because it was getting too uncontrollable for me – not that its really bad, but its okay. It was good though, I was able to talk to the person giving me a haircut and she asked me what I was doing here and such, so I was able to talk to her a little bit about Vietnam and such. I think if I go in again I’ll ask her if she wants Bible studies. She was really nice.
Well, on the way back we got my camera and saw some interesting things around. Then we went to the place where they had the batting cages, but we couldn’t find them, and when we did they had just finished; so we decided to go to the park and play some friendly football.

It was funny though because Eric was like, “Come on Malcolm, you need to get a work out in for the day.” And I was like, “I work out like everyday.” And he was like, “Did you work out today?” And I said, “Yeah, man.” And Nathan was there, and was like, “Yeah, he works out like everyday.” It was fun – and its good to have been in shape.
